SELF-confidence

confidence

Lots of people generalize and think that if they can’t do a certain thing, that they don’t have self-confidence. Self-confidence or lack of it is really specific to a task or activity.

Look at the different areas of your life and observe how much confident you are in each area. You’ll notice that in some areas you are very confident while in others you may feel unsure… or perhaps a little confident.

It’s natural to feel uneasy about new situations that you have yet to experience or have no control over. Lots of people may confuse arrogance with self-confidence and that’s not so… confidence does not exclude humility.

People that are self-confident have disciplined their disappointments and have realistic views of themselves and the situations that involve them.

Self-confidence allows you to bounce back from a set back, because you know that you did the best you could at that moment in time.

Garbage Truck

A friend forwarded this to me … totally worth sharing.

DSTSS (Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff).

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day?

However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly she/he can get back her/his focus on what’s important.

I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a taxi cab in Indianapolis . Here’s what happened.

I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Indianapolis Airport . We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car’s back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And, I mean, he was friendly.

So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did.

So this was it: The “Law of the Garbage Truck.” I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do it anymore.”

I began to see garbage trucks.

I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by? You’ll be happier.

Plan and Execute

Plan

Ever wonder why things didn’t work out the way we planned?

Usually the answer is simple: it’s because we didn’t bother to plan at all.

Do everything you can right now to set yourself up for the future. Begin to understand that it’s those small actions that add up to an accomplished achievement in the long run.

It is the effort you give today that will determine where you will be 3 months from now, 12 months from now, etc.

You want to look back at your year and see achievements, instead of disappointments. You know that you can do more. You don’t need to beat yourself up when you know you have given your best effort. Get started now, don’t let YOURSELF down.

Take a look at John Goddards Goal List, he started them back when he was 15 years old and as outlandish his ‘dream’ list was he has accomplished many of them.

I was lucky to find him on ‘youtube’ so you can see the man and hear his strategy. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and when you’re done…go find your note pad and pencil and get started.

Invest

Most people don’t INVEST the time necessary to discover what they were born for.

Most people don’t INVEST enough in themselves to cultivate their natural strengths.

Make a decision that you will no longer sit on the side lines of your life, make a decision that you will not make excuses to pursue your dreams. Make a decision that you will not tolerate complacency.

You are the biggest treasure one worth investing in. Even if it takes a life time to discover what your contribution is… the journey of self improvement and the lives you’ll touch along the way will be the greatest investment of action you will ever do.

Daisy Says: Make a decision to invest in you.
