History holds many stories of great men and women that held True to their cause, whether we believe in their cause or not, it is the strength of their character that creates their legacy.

Good Friday reminds me of perservering and staying True to my heart. In the Stations of the Cross I am reminded that there will be some dark days ahead, and that despite the onseeing crowd that the challenges I face are mine to ‘own’ and despite the failures -I must perservere and move onward. Sometimes I do not understand the insanity of the situation and I have to search deep within me to find a reason to keep going… and when I see that my actions connects to a positive solution to others outside of me then my pain becomes insignificant.

Sometimes the results of our actions lay dormant until that one day when you look back with the eyes of Faith and see that it was not in vain. Easter weekend reminds me of the seasons and how in Winter the seeds lay dormant awaiting the rebirth in Spring.

Here’s a little trivia.

The Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny is not a modern invention. The symbol originated with the pagan festival of Eastre. The goddess, Eastre, was worshipped by the Anglo-Saxons through her earthly symbol, the rabbit.

The Germans brought the symbol of the Easter rabbit to America. It was widely ignored by other Christians until shortly after the Civil War. In fact, Easter itself was not widely celebrated in America until after that time.

The Easter Egg

As with the Easter Bunny and the holiday itself, the Easter Egg predates the Christian holiday of Easter. The exchange of eggs in the springtime is a custom that was centuries old when Easter was first celebrated by Christians.

From the earliest times, the egg was a symbol of rebirth in most cultures. Eggs were often wrapped in gold leaf or, if you were a peasant, colored brightly by boiling them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers.

Today, children hunt colored eggs and place them in Easter baskets along with the modern version of real Easter eggs — those made of plastic or chocolate candy.

The Date of Easter

Prior to A.D. 325, Easter was variously celebrated on different days of the week, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In that year, the Council of Nicaea was convened by emperor Constantine. It issued the Easter Rule which states that Easter shall be celebrated on the first Sunday that occurs after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. However, a caveat must be introduced here. The “full moon” in the rule is the ecclesiastical full moon, which is defined as the fourteenth day of a tabular lunation, where day 1 corresponds to the ecclesiastical New Moon. It does not always occur on the same date as the astronomical full moon. The ecclesiastical “vernal equinox” is always on March 21. Therefore, Easter must be celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.

Good Friday is the most somber day of the entire year for Traditional Catholics. A silence pervades, socializing is kept to a minimum, things are done quietly; it is a day of mourning. Traditional Catholics wear black, extinguish candles and any lamps burning before icons, keep amusements and distractions down, and go about the day in great solemnity.

Good Friday occurs between March 20 and April 23 on the Friday before Easter. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. Good Friday has been observed since about 100 C. E. (A.D.) However, for many years it had no association with Jesus’ death but was simply another day of fasting. Since the late fourth century, it has been associated with the crucifixion. Many churches now have mourning services from noon until 3:00 p.m. to symbolize Jesus’ last hours on the cross. Some congregations also re-enact Jesus’ procession to the cross in a ritual known as Stations of the Cross.

Because Jesus was on the Cross between the hours of Noon and 3:00 PM, these three hours today are considered the most sacred of all.

It’s interesting to learn about different traditions and religions it is how we begin to understand each other. If this is a special day in your religion share with our 360 family how you observe Good Friday.

Daisy Says: Sharing is the begining to understanding.
