I must agree nothing is more apprehensive and paralyzing than the thought of doing something you’ve never done before; yet there is the tinge of excitement and wonder.

Nothing could be more exciting than having others join in on your adventure.

This adventure is one of the chapters from our nonprofit organization The Helpful Hands Foundation. One of the focus of the foundation is helping youths via sports and our young entrepreneur program. A subsidiary of The Helpful Hands Foundation is Community Youth Development Association which is overseen by its Director – a dynamic gentleman, David Shannon.

David came up with the great idea of a Golf Tournament Fundraiser. Of course… neither he nor I have ever initiated a ‘fund-raising’ event. (Now we have something to add to our resume).

We learned a lot, had a lot of fun and are looking forward to doing it again!

Now comes the lesson. The lesson comes in the experience, in the doing and the journey. To embark on a mission for the sake of the mission means nothing. Yet the excitement of the adventure, the possibilities of a positive outcome, the relationships forged, the inner spirit is revealed as the passion behind the mission comes forth. The why.

Why do anything? Why go forth onto untrodden territory? Why step out of the comfort zone?

Embark on the journey beyond your comfort zone and you’ll have the answer to your ‘why’… and with that you’ll discover your passion.

Your ‘why’ and your passion will become one in the journey.

This combination will spawn you onward making the journey alive with purpose. The challenges that present themselves will be but like pieces of a puzzle that with time will find its match.

THHF CYDA Annual 2010 Golf Classic was our first fundraiser of this magnitude… what could we have done better for the next one? More volunteers, more time!!

If you would like to create Golf Tournament Fund Raiser (A great warm-weather fund raising event) here are some tips:

-Promote with quality posters at golf stores, high-traffic, high-visibility locations. Use newsletter and email lists, and online social networks to get the word out.

-Distribute a press release about your golf fundraiser to all your local media outlets.

-Most golf courses will give you a substantial discount for a large group, you can charge the regular price and do quite well.

-Contact local businesses and ask them to sponsor a hole. Show a mock-up of the signs that will be placed for each sponsor and your event program where you’ll list all your sponsors.

-Contact corporations and ask them to sponsor your event.

-Have a sponsorship request on your letterhead and offer: prominent signage at the event, corporate logo golf balls for all golfers, newspaper coverage, etc.

-Player sponsors, ask each player to raise at least $100 in pledges.

-Silent auction: Solicit items from local businesses.

-Hold a raffle: Increase sales, sell tickets to the general public and not just to your group of supporters. You can even set up a sales table at high-traffic locations like shopping centers – this will get your event more recognition.

-Cater lunch: Offer a boxed lunch of sandwich, chips, and a cookie. Depending on what you’re offering, markup your costs by $3 to $5 per person and you’ll do well.

Daisy Says: Step out of comfort and into excitement.

As we get to the last days of the year many of us indulge in making resolutions. People resolve to stop smoking, others resolve to go to the gym every day. Some resolve to work harder, close more sales and the list goes on.

Have you ever created such a list?

How have you done in achieving the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of 2009? Did you make any progress? Was it more like one step forward and two steps back?

As you look toward 2010, what’s your plan to keep yourself growing, learning and achieving throughout the year?

What are your goals for your career, your relationships, your spiritual life?

If you want something more…something different to happen in your business life, your personal life or with your physical body… you need to have RESOLVE…yes that’s like RESOLUTION.

Do you want to get yourself going in a new direction?

“To be terrific, you must be specific!”

You can’t expect to receive something that’s vague, you need to get close and personal with your goals.

Develop a practical plan of action and get started immediately. Chart out where you want to be in relation to your goal in the next month, six months, one year, five years and ten years. Get started today. Write it all out.

Want to earn more money?

What is the exact amount you desire? Be realistic yet make it better than your best so it’s a bit of a challenge as well as something that excites you. Then, take that number and break it down. How many sales must you make to earn that income? How many presentations do you need to make before getting a sale? Write down that number. How many contacts do you make in order to get a presentation?

Decide the amount of energy you are willing to expend to reach your goal. How many hours are you willing to work a day? How many jobs are you willing to hold down? What sort of work are you willing to do?

Go apply for that same principal to each goal NOW!

The most important thing with all of your goals is that they are believable.

If you believe you can achieve them, you will.

If you have them broken down to what you can do each day, they’ll be in your planner each and every day.

If you want 2010 to be more successful than 2009, you need to think differently, plan differently, and act differently. You may need fresh creative ideas, and different skills.

And finally, take time to review your plan every morning and every night and envision yourself taking these steps, DOING THEM and SUCCEEDING!

Do whatever it will take to achieve them. Twelve months from now you’ll look back with pride at what you’ve accomplished and who you’ve become.

Daisy Says: Believe and Achieve.

People naturally gravitate towards those who feel comfortable with themselves, know who they are and like themselves. This doesn’t mean being arrogant. I believe confidence is the subtle expression of the inner you which is exuded in the way in which you engage with others in a positive fashion.

Give others the best of you, do more of what you like and others will enjoy you at your best, others will sense this and be drawn to you.

Which brings me to the next point: Passion
Attractive qualities in people are often tied into passion. If your life has meaning and a purpose as opposed to simply allowing yourself to become a ‘floater’, it’s far more attractive to others.

Success is something you attract by becoming an attractive person. (Jim Rohn)

Adding to the attraction factor is your ability to improve your communication skills. You don’t need to be an extrovert. However, by sharing your passions with others yet, more importantly, being a good listener and showing a genuine interest in what others have to say, is a great way to be more attractive. Effective listening skills can never be underestimated when it comes to how to be a more attractive person. Remember, the only way to get what you want, is to help others get what they want. And since everyone wants to feel good, to feel important, and to be listened to, why not facilitate this by really listening when someone is talking, by being interested, by asking questions, and by talking about the things the other person wants to talk about.

Not only will they be more likely to be interested in what you have to say, but you might even learn something new in the process.

Finally, one can never say enough about having a Positive Outlook On Life
A smile costs nothing and will usually always brighten up someone’s day (even when things may not always be going your way)

We found a faster path to a full-flavored soup. Is there such a thing?

The Problem
Given enough meat, bones, and time, a great beef soup isn’t all that hard to make. But can you make an equally great soup without spending that much time and energy?

The Goal
To make beef and vegetable soup in just an hour, without sacrificing the intense flavor of a long-simmered homemade beef stock.

The Solution
We first needed to find a cut of meat with the right texture. After testing nearly a dozen samples, we settled on sirloin tip steak—its shredded texture fooled tasters into thinking the meat had cooked for hours. To keep to our time limit, we had to use store-bought broth but knew it would need some serious doctoring. After analyzing the flavor components in beef broth, we tested a group of foods that contained glutamates—naturally occurring flavor compounds that accentuate beefy flavors. Finally, we wanted to recreate the richness developed in long-simmered soup that is a result of tough proteins in the meat and bones breaking down into gelatin. Adding a tablespoon of gelatin softened in cold water provided the missing viscosity.

Interesting how success in life is much like following a recipe. Read on.

We found the secret to quick success. *hahahaha

The Problem
Given enough patience, endurance, planning and execution success isn’t hard to achieve. But can you really attain success without spending that much time and energy?

The Goal
To attain success in half the time, without sacrificing all of ones lifetime in mastering the basic principles.

The Solution
We first need to determine what are the basic principles of success. After studying successful people, we identify key components of success. To keep our time limit, we need to evaluate our current belief systems and need some serious doctoring. After analyzing our thought patterns, we take action and follow through on our plan, allowing our own personality to begin to take shape with the new applied principles. Finally, we wanted to recreate the rich and fulfilled life that is a result of patience, endurance, planning and execution. Adding Love and Passion provides the missing piece of an exciting journey

Through out school we are told not to copy, yet in the ‘real’ world copying what successful people have done holds the key to help road map your success.

Daisy Says: Model success and you will attain success. *Follow a good recipe!
